In early November, members of the Wabanaki Commission on Land & Stewardship, representatives from First Light organizations, and Wabanaki youngers embarked on a visit to Odanak First Nation. We met at Norridgewock and traveled through Abenaki homelands in what's now called Western Maine, crossing the present-day international border and arriving at the Odanak reserve on the banks of what's now called the St Francis River. We spent 3 days spending time in Odanak over meals, walks, and conversations. This was a space for Wabanaki Commission members to meet with Odanak leadership, Wabanaki youngers to meet with Ndakina land guardians and connect with kin, and non-native conservation folks to meet with our Canadian counterparts. This visit is an intentional step across the international border that divides Wabanakik, towards the return of land and restoration of Wabanaki land relationships across these homelands. On the last day, some of the group traveled on to what's now Quebec City on the St Lawrence River, and visited Montmorency Falls (pictured).
